College life fun

I used to always hear my elder friends, parents and many elders telling me to enjoy my college life to the fullest. They say you will never get this kind of life ever later on. I feel good that i am still in college.

Yesterday evening i had gone for a college party. We had given a fresher's party for our juniors. We all gathered at the party hall. It was one of the best party hall i have ever been. It had blue lights and as you enter you could get a disco feel. The DJ was awesome. We guys started dancing like its the last time we were dancing.

All of us in the BMM section were dancing together and we got to know a lot of new faces. We were dancing like crazy college kids. I realised that college life is the best life ever. I don’t know if we will ever get to dance with your closest buddies ever after college. It was great fun and i really felt that what people say is true. Your college life is the golden years of your life.

Times of India

Times of India has been the leading newspaper in India for decades. They have the highest distribution and readership in India. Many papers like DNA, Hindustan Times, have also established themselves well and have gained a good amount of readership but they have not been able to compete with TOI. TOI still remains the top on the list.

IT is actually a matter of loyalty towards a particular newspaper. Reading newspaper becomes a habit and people get adapted to a particular newspaper as they keep reading it every day. Every newspaper has a particular pattern of writing, different layouts, different look, similar news is put in all the newspapers in different ways. People get habituated to a particular pattern of reading over a period of time.

Times of India newspaper has the best editorials compared to any other newspaper. They cover all news. It is very well known for the ‘Speaking tree’ column. They have a Crest Edition which has the best editorial articles. Economic Times is the best financial paper and it rules the financial newspaper market till date.

Even though you may different newspapers, if given an option most people will prefer reading Times of India. TOI has established themselves so well. They have completely penetrated into the newspaper market. They have been and will always be the leading newspaper in India.

Cleanliness in Government hospitals

I had been to a very well known government hospital yesterday. I have seen it on TV and newspapers before and have heard a lot about it and had created a visual about how the interior of the hospital would be.

I was really surprised when i was walking inside the hospital. When i was climbing up the stairs, i saw that people have spat at the corners of the stairs and its not been cleaned. I understand that it is a very big hospital and cleaning it is a very tuff task. But cleanliness is the most basic hygiene that is expected in any hospital. How much time would it take for any patient to catch an infection? There was a lot of dust everywhere. I don’t blame these hospitals because they have countless number of people coming there every day. It is people who dirty the place around and spit and all.

I appreciate that these government hospitals are lifesavers for many people even from the lower income group. They also provide a lot of free services. But i think some improvement in the cleanliness could be of great help for every patient admitted in these hospitals. The hospital could probably try and employ some more cleaners and can have regular check on whether the cleaning is done regularly or not. They should make a strict rule that no one should spit in the hospital. Every person entering the hospital should be cautioned to not spit or dirty the hospital.

Hygiene is the most important thing in a hospital because if things around are not clean patients will not show quick recovery and they may fall even more sick. . I also understand that these hospitals might be putting their complete efforts to keep the hospital clean.

Are music in festivals loosing their true color?

The remix fever is taking its place in everything possible. In festivals, generally classical, devotional or semi-classical music should be played.

Nowadays, remix is done for so many songs. Even some devotional songs are remixed. The songs lose their real essence when they are remixed.

In Mumbai during Ganesh Chaturthi, when ‘visarjan’ (procession) of Lord Ganpati takes place, film songs are played. I agree that film songs are more fast and entertaining but the occasion to play these film songs is not right. The actual thing should be that people in the procession should sing bhajans, devotional songs and keep chanting the name of God all through the way. People should have a basic sense of where to play what kind of songs and should be careful that the essence of the festival is not lost.

Navratri is a festival very largely celebrated in Mumbai. Its basic origin in from Gujarat but it is enjoyed by most people in Mumbai. The celebration includes ‘dandiya ras’ which is kind of gujarati dance played during all the 9 nights. There are alot of places where people dance ‘dandiya’ This type of dance is danced on Gujarati songs which are made with the dandiya beats and sung in Gujarati. Nowadays, thinsg are changing. The songs played for dandiya are mostly Bollywood songs or remixed gujarati songs. It is more entertaining but the true value of the dance is lot. Dancing on disco songs in front of Goddess Devi is like a disrespect to our devotion towards the Goddess.

Remix trend is totally the ‘in thing’ now. It is very difficult to change it as it is what people like and demand.

Half left construction

A very common thing which we witness in our day-to-day life in cities like Mumbai, Chennai is half left construction of roads. In so many places you will find roads half dug and left, footpaths half left, some buildings half left. Lot of these constructions begin before rainy season. During rainy season it becomes very difficult for people as water logging happens very fast. It is very difficult to walk on the roads as the road is uneven so chances to trip and fall are more. Even driving is a problem as the roads are not smooth. Half left construction causes traffic jam at a lot of places. Many times construction work of flyovers are started and left midway.

Potholes are another thing which is increasing day by day. Again it causes inconvenience during rainy season. They are very risky because when there is a flood, you don't even know whether you have a pothole ahead of you on the road as you cant see anything due to water. There are a lot of chances that you can fall into it or your leg can get trapped. Manholes are also left open a lot of times which is very risky for people walking on the road. One fall into it and you don't know what will happen next.

I think it is high time that the government takes measures to remove these potholes. Government should also keep a check that constructions are not half left. If there are some legal complications then they should not be started. If they are started then they have to be done completely. This can make life much more easier for people on a daily basis.
